As
I said in the previous blog, I got a chance to do internship research
in Kumadai (Kumamoto University) for 1.5 month from December-January
(cold enough....). Kumamoto University is a Japanese National University
located in Kumamoto Prefecture (Kyushu island). This university has 4
campuss, kurokami campus (main campuss), Honjo campuss and Oe campuss.
My laboratory is belong to Faculty of Science which is located in South
Kurokami campuss. Kurokami campuss dived into north and south campuss
which is just located in the same area and just separated by the public
street. While to reach oe campus and honjo campuss it needs sometime
since those are not located in the same area.
The main gate to the north campus
The
administration building is located on the north campus. To reach
Kumadai Kurokami campus, you can use public bus or mostly people ride
bicycles. It is really convenience to ride a bicycle in Kumamoto, since
this city os beautiful to be explored, not so crowded and also has
beautiful landscapes, in my opinion. In both north and south campus, the
cafeteria and canteen are available. They open until 8 pm. The
cafeteria provides a variety of food to fill your empty tummy. There is
no special halal menu in the cafeteria, for Moslem you can find food
according to your preference (no pork, no meat for some people). More

The
University dormitory/ international house of Kumamoto university is
located app 1,2 km from the Kurokami campus. From the Kurokami campus to
the dormitory you can walk, take a bus or using a bicycle. I recommend
you to buy or rent a bicycle since it is convenient and also
transportation in Japan is quite costly.
International
house KU has several rooms types (for detail information, kindly check
international house KU website). I was designated to stay in the single
room, the room is quite good with good facilities. The room is equipped
with a refrigerator, HI (induction stove), sink, bed, table, chair, and
personal bathroom. The AC and heater are also provided. The cupboard and
storage cabins are sufficient enough to put your things. The bicycle
parking is also provided, this dormitory is a non-smoking dormitory.
They have comprehensive waste management, and you have to dispose of
your garbage at the designated date.

Some of you might be curious about where
to buy food or groceries near to the dormitory. The convinience store
(family mart and Seven eleven) are located app. 300 m, and between KU
and dormitory there is a supermarket if you want to buy Groceries and
that is SEIMS. While another supermarket that I frequently go to is the
cosmos (cheap price).

The nearest train station is Tatsutaguchi
st which is located app. 800m from the dormitory. From that station, you
can reach, Kumamoto station, Kumamoto airport and some other parts of
Kumamoto.
