Visiting Kumamoto #Part 1 (a trip to kumamoto-Japan by Asiana Airline)

I am starting this blog to share my experience over my short trip to Kumamoto city. Around August 2019, I got a notification that I got selected for joining the IROAST research internship at Kumamoto university (link if you interested to apply for that program: http://iroast.kumamoto-u.ac.jp/) for 1.5 month. I got excited to join this program since it is not only can improve my knowledge of my laboratory skills in terms of my field but also well yah you know, Japan is always a good country to be visited.

Then on December 15th is my departure time, my flight was with Asiana Airline (korean airline) with overnight flight of course. For the economy class, the airline give 23 kg and 10 kg for the cabin baggage.  To reach kumamoto, the nearest international aiport is fukuoka, so my flight route was Jakarta-Incehon and Incheon-Fukuoka. Asiana airline is included in Skytrax team, so the facilities came with the flight is considerably good. The entertaining directory, like music, movie book and others are quite good. I also can order the halal food during my flight (check my short  video about my trip :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HpEunOXwlY&t=9s)

My flight to Fukuoka was a little bit hectic as I arrived at the Incheon airport around 7.40 am (7 h flight from Jakarta) and my boarding time to Fukuoka is open around 8.10 am which I need to move to another gate for my boarding. Flight to Incheon to Fukuoka was around 1 hour and 40 minutes. Finally, I reached Fukuoka and after arranging my baggage, I came out and try to find the information about the bus heading to Kumamoto. In the arrival hall (international arrival) you will find atm, convenience store, money changer stands ad you can also buy the Japanese simcard in the vending machine or the stands if you wish to buy there and bus information (near to gate 4). I ask the lady in the counter about how to but the ticket bus and she showed me how to get the bus ticket buy clicking in the particular stand machine. If you get confused about where to go, just ask people and airport officials, they will definitely help you. Arriving hall of Fukuoka airport is not complicated, you can learn the airport map and where you have to stand to find either the shuttle bus to Fukuoka city of the intercity bus to the nearby cities of Fukuoka (https://www.fukuoka-airport.jp/english/). I took the Nishitetsu highway bus to Kumamoto (check for the timetable: http://www.nishitetsu.jp/en/timetable/)with 2 h trip and the ticket price is 2280 yen. The final stop of that bus is sakura matchi terminal bus station which is the biggest bus terminal in Kumamoto. That Bus station also connected to the shopping arcade, so you can enjoy doing shopping as well there.

The bus is really comfortable (wifi full service) and also we can see the natural view alongside Fukuoka to Kumamoto.  If you wish to come to Kumamoto, not by bus, you can take bullet train (shinkansen), but you need to go to hakata station from the airport to get the shinkansen. There is a shuttle bus from Fukuoka airport to Hakata Station.
Kumamoto is a fine city and good city and one of the biggest cities in Kyushu island. My experience to life here will be published in the next part.
